A nod to his southern california roots and the sea, natural light , and his favored palette of greens and blues always weighs heavily in his “jam approved” designs. “This is Home” explores the concept of “home” and how it should reflect each owner’s unique personal story and style. It features Marks personal residences on both coasts, a Bahamian compound, an eclectic Los Angeles horse farm and more. Each space is thoughtfully designed to tell the owner’s unique and personal story.

Marks’ Personal Life and How it Influences his Style

Since his stint at Million Dollar Decorators and authoring his first book The Nature of Home, (still quite current) Marks has become a husband and father. He relocated from his home base in Santa Monica To The Hamptons and Montecito (which I think recently sold as well). The homes he has created for his family are those that have my heart.

Marks’s Montecito Cottage is my personal favorite. In his family room, we see his signature style beautifully executed. His effortless blend of vintage and new, carefully chosen accessories and antiques, and wrapped in his beloved palette of blues and greens. And, oh, that lamp base (a personal favorite of mine)! I wonder what it was in its former life?

Creating Diverse Spaces

Marks avoids a “cookie cutter look” but instead adapts his signature style to each owner’s personality, and their different locations and architectural styles. This is home features projects from California, Texas, Colorado and beyond each with their own distinctive personality.

Product Collaborations

Jeffrey draws inspiration from his coastal background for his collaborations with a variety of talented vendors, each piece thoughtfully curated to reflect his signature style. I especially love his mood board featured in Luxe Interiors & Design – Designer Mood Boards, which offers an interesting glimpse into his creative process and how he brings his vision to life.

The Rug Company (Coastal Threads) Rugs from this collection are “inspired by Marks’ time spent in and around the water of the East and West Coasts of America.”

I have used his much loved green oaks pendants in projects over the years. There are knock offs available, but none compare to the originals.

I’ve always felt a connection to Jeffrey, as we’ve both shared our lives with yellow labs of similar ages. Meet Sister—I have a hunch that his daughter, James, might have had a hand in naming her. She has that same playful spark that reminds me so much of Scouty.

Jeffrey Alan Marks, This is Home, is a dream if you love a relaxed, collected, livable design. His signature blend of classic and tailored interiors (“designed to be lived in rather than looked at”)— all layered with personality, timeless color choices, and carefully curated custom details speak to me. Each project offers endless inspiration for creating a home that feels both beautiful and deeply personal. This is Home may be my favorite design book to date. I rarely devote an entire post to a design book. If you’re a fan of his work—or just looking for fresh ideas to elevate your own space—this book is one you’ll want to add to your collection.
